Your support will help fund the next stage of production and bring this independent Canadian film to life
Join the campaign drive for Canada Day
We’re currently producing Diefenbaker: One Canada through crowdfunding, and this early support phase in the lead-up to Canada Day is designed to help move the film into its next stage of production.
Choose from four supporter tiers, ranging from a simple advance ticket to a soundtrack package, collectible candle, and even an Early Supporter film credit.
Every contribution helps build momentum for an independent Canadian film rooted in history, ideas, and national purpose.
John Diefenbaker served for 39 years as a Member of Parliament.
For our fundraiser, we thought a fitting yardstick would be the House of Commons mace.
Help us turn it to gold by the end of Canada Day, July 1!
Early Supporters - Access to Soundtrack
Fifteen original songs have been created for the upcoming film, and by contributing $25 or more, you’ll receive the full soundtrack for your own library, along with a digital candle video that plays the complete score. Listen to a sample track here: “Canada’s Answer.”
Frequently Asked Questions
-
This is an independent dramatic film project about John Diefenbaker — one of Canada’s most distinctive Prime Ministers — and the principles, pressures, and political struggles that shaped his leadership and legacy.
-
Large-scale Canadian historical films are incredibly difficult to finance independently — especially stories set in past eras that require extensive historical recreation.
We believe emerging AI filmmaking tools can help independent creators bring important Canadian stories to life that might otherwise never reach the screen.
At Strathcona Studios, we see AI not as a replacement for human creativity, but as a new cinematic tool — guided by research, storytelling, music, editing, and emotional vision.
By supporting this campaign, you’re helping launch not only this film, but a new independent approach to Canadian historical storytelling.
-
We are building this film independently and want to involve supporters directly in bringing it to life. Crowdfunding helps us advance development, production, and audience-building while keeping the project rooted to individual backers and avoiding government grants or funding.
-
Funds will help support the next stages of the project, including script writing, development, production, editing, music, fees, tools, research, and marketing.
-
Our goal is to complete the film within one year, depending on funding levels and a smooth production process. As with any independent film, timing can sometimes change, but we are committed to bringing the project through to completion and keeping supporters updated on major progress points. Early supporters will also be treated to sample scenes along the way.
-

The soundtrack package includes 15 stirring instrumental tracks from the upcoming film, delivered as MP3 files for personal listening, along with a special 45-minute digital candle video featuring the music and displaying Diefenbaker’s famous “I am a Canadian, a free Canadian…” quote.
-
The music is created by the filmmakers using AI tools as part of the project’s creative process. It is carefully curated and assembled to support the tone, atmosphere, and emotional world of the film.

John G. Diefenbaker served as the Prime Minister of Canada from 1957 - 1963. This was a pivotal time in Canadian history, both with domestic reforms and international tension.
Diefenbaker faced many obstacles over decades, but maintained a belief that one day he would lead the nation.
Diefenbaker’s accomplishments were many, and this film will examine both his achievements and the larger ideas at play in his life and times.Stay in touch
